Little Bag of Calm

Our Little Bag of Calm is the perfect gift to encourage self-care for parents

Self-care is giving yourself time to recharge and rebuild your own health and wellbeing.

It can be as simple as a few minutes of daily breathing exercises, practicing mindfulness or writing in a journal. These activities can help reduce the symptoms of stress and anxiety.

    What’s inside a Little Bag of Calm?

Why is self-care important?

Parents of babies in the neonatal unit often express feelings of worry, exhaustion and anxiety. You can feel torn between the compulsion to spend as much time as possible with your baby and the obligation to meet the ongoing demands of work, other children, domestic duties and relationships.

Amid all of this, it can be difficult to remember to take the time to recharge – however, introducing acts of daily self-care can make a huge difference to parents’ long-term mental health and wellbeing.

That’s where the Little Bag of Calm can help!

Examples of self-care include;

  • Journalling, listening to music or a podcast
  • Using a relaxation/mindfulness app and trying breathing exercises
  • Using mindfulness colouring-in activities
  • Sharing a cuppa with friends or family in the hospital coffee shop
  • Leaving the hospital for a shower, massage or haircut
  • Going to a yoga class or just heading outside for a walk

Supporting friends or family members in the neonatal unit

It can be hard to know how to support a friend or family member when their baby is in the neonatal unit. Your heart goes out to them, but you feel helpless to provide meaningful assistance.

Offering to go for a walk with them, buying them a coffee or driving them to a sports class can really help.

Our Little Bag of Calm can also be purchased for friends or family members.
