My twins developed a late stage of Twin to Twin Transfusion syndrome

Here is Evelyn’s story:

My twins, Tia & Victoria were born at 30 weeks, weighing just 1.2 and 1.3 kilos. They developed a late stage of Twin to Twin Transfusion syndrome and within 24 hours my obstetrician found me a hospital (The Mercy). Two days later the team of doctors, along with my obstetrician made the decision it was time to take them out.

After an emergency c-section, both girls were transported down to the NICU and I couldn’t hold them until 24 hours later.

It was a long journey – 8 weeks to be exact – with two staphylococcus infections, bronchitis and influenza. I never thought I’d be here today with both of them. They weigh almost 9 kilos now!

Being a NICU mum wasn’t easy. I didn’t know anyone in the same boat as me or who had experienced preemie babies, but it has made me stronger and it’s true that preemies are the biggest fighters and warriors!
