SIBLING STORY TIME: 7th-18th September, 2020

Welcome to Sibling Story time

Sharing a story book together is a great way for the family to bond. As part of the Little Readers Read-a-thon we’re also encouraging siblings to participate in reading sessions both in hospital and at home. To get you started we have a series of videos of Australian authors reading their own books in a virtual story time below. Don’t forget to complete your logging sheet of the books that you read together for the chance to win some great prizes.

Reading to young children, beginning even in early infancy, has a lasting effect on language, literacy and early reading skills.

Meet our Read-a-thon Ambassador:  Michelle Worthington

Sibling storytime

Sibling story time is a fantastic way to provide siblings of premature and sick babies in neonatal units with the opportunity to participate in our Little Readers Read a thon. Siblings are encouraged to read at home, in hospital with their baby and attend story time activities within the neonatal unit. They then log the number of books and minutes read and enter the competition to have a chance at winning 1 of 5 great prize packs up for grabs.

Last year we had the support of children’s authors who ran Sibling Story time within hospital units, this year with the limitations of COVID 19 we have developed a virtual story time where children’s authors have kindly provided videos of stories that parents can watch with children and enjoy together.

So how can your child participate?

It’s easy just download the logging sheet and start reading with your child. If hospitals allow have your sibling visit baby in hospital and read to your children together, It’s great way to enjoy the many benefits of reading as a family.

Sibling story time will run between the 7th and 18th of September 2020. During this time siblings are encouraged to read as many books as they can with parents, family members, and friends and log them on their logging sheet. They need to enter the competition through the link below by the 23rd of September. The great news is that even if your hospital isn’t running the Little Readers Read a thon in their unit your child can still participate in Sibling story time.
