Children born preterm are three to four times more likely than other kids to have Development Coordination Disorder (DCD). DCD is a disorder in which a child’s movement skills are below what’s expected for their age. Children with DCD have difficulty with skills such as tying shoelaces, using cutlery, writing and playing sports, and they may have difficulties with balance and spatial awareness. The majority of children with DCD go undiagnosed.
