Life’s Little Treasures will be able to support more families like the Reeses, thanks to a national donation from Goodyear Tyres.
Belinda and James Rees, of Summerhill, are parents of two premies, three-year-old Jess and five-month-old Chloe.
Jess was born at 29 weeks and Chloe was born at 30. Mrs Rees said it was difficult bringing up both children.
“Our first one, Jess, was the unknown so that was the hard thing,” Mrs Rees said.
“For Chloe, we knew what to expect but it was hard being separated from Jess.”
Mrs Rees said she found a lot of support through Life’s Little Treasures’ Facebook page and its monthly support groups, where she could meet up with other Launceston premie parents.
Life’s Little Treasures provides support to families with premature children. It formed a partnership with Goodyear Tyres last financial year and $1 for every Goodyear Assurance TripleMax tyre bought before the end of June was donated to the charity. More than $70,000 was donated.
To date, the funds have enabled Life’s Little Treasures Foundation to produce and distribute about 11,000 parent support folders, containing vital information and guidance for families coping with the stresses of having a child in neonatal care.
Life’s Little Treasures chief executive Shusannah Morris said the funds would help the organisation support more families.
The Launceston Life’s Little Treasures group meets on the third Wednesday of every month (except in school holidays) at the Ravenswood Child and Family Centre. It is free to be a part of the group and attend its monthly get-togethers.
