Mark it in your diaries ????????????
In 17 days’ time we will be celebrating World Prematurity Day with many amazing premature baby support organisations across the globe, including EFCNI and The Australasian Nidcap Training Centre.
The theme of this year’s day is “Working together: Partnering with families in the care of small and sick newborns”. Its focus will be on the importance of parents and healthcare professionals working as partners in care.
World Prematurity Day raises awareness of the challenges and impact of preterm birth globally. 15 million babies are born prematurely every year, that’s 1 baby in 10. In Australia alone, 27,000 babies are born premature, 9% of all births.
Lighting It Up Purple
As part of the day, Australia will be “Lighting It Up Purple” for premature babies. We’d love you to join in, let’s get everyone involved, highlighting this important day.
Get your purple candles ready, get your office or local landmark involved, ask them to light it up purple. We look forward to seeing Australia go Purple for a day!!

Shusannah Morris, CEO and Co-Founder of the Life’s Little Treasures Foundation says
“With 27,000 babies born premature every year in Australia, we have a big job to do, to ensure that these families are all supported in every way possible, so that the impact of it is lessened for them. The Life’s Little Treasures Foundation is passionate about providing families on this journey with Support, Information and Understanding. We are committed to partnering and working with healthcare professionals to achieve this.”
World Prematurity Day
World Prematurity Day on 17 November is one of the most important days in the year to raise awareness of the challenges and burden of preterm birth globally. The day was initiated by EFCNI and partnering European parent organisations in 2008. The international co-founders LittleBigSouls (Africa), March of Dimes (USA) and National Premmie Foundation (Australia), of which LLTF is a founding member, joined the celebrations and made World Prematurity Day an intercontinental movement. Meanwhile, countless individuals and organisations from more than 100 countries join forces with activities, special events and commit to action to help address preterm birth and improve the situation of preterm babies and their families.
